Getting Started with Yelp Cash Back

I have been using Yelp for several years, and was delighted to discover their new "cash-back" program.  Here's how it works:

Find a business that offers cash-back.  You can find these businesses by simply entering the terms CASH BACK in the Yelp search window. The exact discount is determined by the business, and is typically 7% (althought some offer 10%)

Register your Credit Card

You must register a credit card with Yelp. I found this to be a simple process.  It took about 1 minute. Then, whenever you patronize that business, and pay with that same credit card, you get the percentage credited back to your account. This has worked flawlessly for me.

Get Free Money for Eating Waffles!

For example, just this morning, I had breakfast at Country Waffles in Dublin, California. Naturally, I paid with the credit card I had previously registered.  Right after the merchant charged my credit card, I got a notification on Yelp telling me I just saved some money. What a nice way to end a meal-a message telling me I get money back.

Tracking Your Savings

You can check the history of your savings by looking under your profile in your Yelp account. The credit are posted by the end of the following month. When I look under my profile, it shows each charge that is eligible for cash back, the total bill, and the amount of my credit.  Very slick!

It appears that the Cash-Back report is only available on the web-site version of Yelp, and not the app.

Look for New Businesses

So far, there aren't a huge number of businesses participating in Yelp Cash-Back.  In my area of Northern California, there are some restaurants close by, but not a lot.  I hope that as word gets out, more businesses will choose to participate.

I confess I enjoy getting messages that tell me about free money.  Well, okay, I guess I won't be getting rich off saving 7%, but I think of it like "free money."  I don't do anthing special, and I get money back!  (This is also in addition to any cash-back savings your credit card company gives you.)

Yea!  Free Money for Eating Waffles!
